On Thursday, January 25, the NC Thunder girls played in a new environment when they traveled to Falls City, Nebraska to play against the Falls City Tigers. The girls arrived ready to play strong in their last regular game of the season. The boys had already played the Tigers earlier in the season since Falls City plays a split season for their boys and girls.

The B-Team was the first to play. The NC girls started off not so well in the first quarter, scoring only 4 points, while the Tigers chipped in 7 points to take an early lead. The girls had to work extra hard in the next quarter to try and get a lead by halftime. They came into the second quarter ready to play hard and did. By halftime, the Thunder had scored 10 more points, while the Tigers only scored 2. At the end of the second quarter, the Thunder girls had grabbed the lead 14-9. The Thunder girls knew that to keep their lead they would have to continue an aggressive level of play. In the third quarter, the Thunder team added 6 points, while the Tigers scored only 3 points. The last quarter was not the best for the NC girls because the Tigers outscored them 8-3. Luckily, the points the NC girls scored in the first three quarters was enough to give them the victory with a final score of  23-20. The B-Team girls were excited to finish their season with another win!

“It was a great game. It was a good experience to play in a whole different state,” said Elena Gonzalez.

The A-Team girls took the court next for their last regular season game. Taryn Ganstrom started the game off with a bang by scoring 7 points in the first quarter. This helped the Thunder team take a lead 9-4 in the first quarter. In the second quarter, the NC girls came up short offensively only scoring 2 points. Falls City went on a scoring drive and at halftime, the score was 11-12 with a Falls City lead. After the usual halftime talk, the Thunder girls were determined to take back their lead. The third quarter was a battle for the lead in the game as the two teams were playing great basketball. Ganstrom scored the only 6 points in the quarter to help the NC girls tie the game 17-17. The fourth quarter rolled around and the game was pretty heated. The Thunder girls played with a lot of heart to score 10 points in the final quarter to get the victory 27-21.

“We played awesome defense and with that came the win,” said Nadia Padilla.

The girls played very well and made their last game definitely one for the books. The game was tough, but the girls pulled through to get the victory. The girls hope their level of play continues in the upcoming Oregon Trail League Tournament.
