Family Fitness Night at Nemaha Central Elementary School took place on Thursday, February 22. Family Fun Night is an event hosted by physical education teacher, Mr. Cory Bass, to promote family fitness. Many families attended the event and shared an amazing time together.

There were many physical activities held at this event. The night started off with jump rope tricks. The next event that took place was the Thunder Run. The Thunder Run consists of several exercises and movement down the floor. It is very similar to a line drill, with exercises at each line. Now that participants were warmed up, the parents and students played a friendly game of pillo polo against each other. Pillo polo is a lot like hockey but the equipment is soft polo sticks that are used to guide the ball toward the goal. To liven things up after the game, the music was turned up and participants took drumsticks and struck a yoga ball to the beat and instructions of Mr. Bass.

The last activity and one that is a favorite of many students was dodgeball. The students and parents played three different variations of the game which were doctor, survival, and jailhouse. The first variation was doctor dodgeball where both teams have a doctor on their side that can free people that are out. Similar to this was the next one, survival. Lastly, jailhouse dodgeball was played and students enjoyed putting their parents in the jailhouse. The night was an exciting event for all of the participants.

“I really like dodgeball because I like to chuck dodgeballs at people,” said Caleb Hynek.

“I thought my family really enjoyed it,” said Zoey Sudbeck.
