The Nemaha Central Elementary and Middle School hosted a spring music concert at the Nemaha Central High School gymnasium on Monday, May 7. The program kicked off with the 5th grade band playing “A Mozart Melody." Then they continued to the next song “Frère Jacques, a French folk song. Lastly, they finished up with “Ode to Joy" arranged by John Higgins.

The next group to perform was the sixth grade band.  The students started off with playing “The Crawdad Song,” an American folk song. Next, they continued on to play “America/God Save the Queen.” Lastly they finished off with a classic song, “Can-Can” by Andrew Balent.

The middle school band, made up of seventh and eighth graders were the last instrumental group to perform. They played the following songs, “Baywood Overture” by James Swearingen; “Attack of the Zombies Trombones” by Larry Neeck; and lastly they played, Super Hit Mega-Mix.  The band program is taught by Mr. Todd Krause.

“Mr. Krause is the coolest,” said Samantha Holthaus.

After the band portion finished up, Mrs. Chelsey Haverkamp had the Drumming Thunder perform.   The Drumming Thunder is made up of 5th grade students who come in after school and learn to play the steel drums.  The eleven students played three songs by Brad Shores.  The songs played were "Day-O," "The Lion Sleeps Tonight," and "Cachita."

“Overall, the concert went very well. The music choices were great, and I’m sure everyone else enjoyed it,” said Andrew Frye.

Thanks to those that came out to support the music in our schools for the spring concert.
