The Nemaha Central Elementary and Middle School Veterans’ Day program was a hit on Friday, November 9.  With new Veterans joining every year and more people showing up, it was a very special program for the students, as well as the Veterans.  When the Veterans filed into the gym, the program got underway with Zoey Sudbeck, Addison Frye, and Feryn Feldkamp leading the crowd in the Star Spangled Banner.  When they finished, Alan Mueting led everyone in a prayer. After the prayer, the students and spectators watched the Veteran slideshow. When the slideshow was finished, there was a brief description of each branch of the military and when each branch was announced the Veterans that were part of that military branch stood up.

Feryn Feldkamp said, "It was a fun experience to honor our Veterans!"

After the branches of the military were announced, Ella Larkin and Gracyn Lierz talked about the military conflicts such as World War II, Korean War, Vietnam War, Desert Storm, Enduring Freedom, and the Iraq War.  The Veterans then introduced themselves and after that, there was a roll call. Students then sang “God Bless the USA.” Next, a check was presented by NCEMS from their “Hats and Shades” fundraiser day at school. The money is to be used at the Hall of Honor in the museum and the Veterans Memorial Wall at the edge of town. The program finished and Veterans were invited to the cafeteria for cookies and coffee along with their family and friends.   With all that said and done, the NCEMS Veterans’ Day Program was a great recognition ceremony of our local Veterans. Thank you to all Veterans that have served our country!

Miles Kuckelman said, "It was pretty cool and I liked it all!"
